Fed: Govt has gone soft on people smugglers: Robb

The federal opposition says increasing number of asylum seekers attempting to land
on Australian shores is a result of the Rudd government going soft on people smugglers.

Opposition frontbencher ANDREW ROBB says Labor's cut back spending on the monitoring
and surveillance of the country's coastline.

Mr ROBB's told Sky News the perception of going soft on people smugglers has led to
a massive increase in boats coming to Australia.

The seventh boatload of asylum seekers this year was intercepted off the West Australian
coast yesterday .. carrying 32 Sri Lankan men.

Parliamentary Secretary for Climate Change GREG COMBET says developed countries around
the world are experiencing an increased number of asylum seekers on the back of serious
conflicts in Afghanistan .. Pakistan .. Sri Lanka and Somalia.
