PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 27, 1997--Demonstrating proven ability to drive demanding Internet performance requirements, Hewlett-Packard Company today announced that its HP Domain Internet Server is the first ever to achieve more than 2,000 operations per second using the industry-standard SPECweb96 performance benchmark. In addition, HP announced that its entry-level Domain Enterprise Server also has achieved an outstanding SPECweb96 performance rating.
With this result, HP today is the only computer manufacturer to hold SPECweb96 performance records in both RISC/UNIX(R) system and Microsoft(R) Windows(R) NT Internet processor environments.
The HP Domain Enterprise Server Model K460, powered by four 64-bit HP PA-8000 CPUs, produced results of 2,114 SPECweb96 operations per second. This performance conceivably enables more than 180 million "hits" per day -- enabling customers to extend their enterprise environments into the Internet.
Based on current SPECweb96 results, the HP Domain Enterprise Server Model K460 is 83 percent faster than its nearest competitor, Digital's Model 4100 4/400. HP's Model K460 also is more than 300 percent faster than Sun Microsystem's best SPECweb96 performance of 626 operations per second.
Also attaining outstanding SPECweb96 operations-per-second performance is the HP Domain Enterprise Server Model B132L, an excellent entry-level office, branch or small-organization Internet server. The Model B132L -- powered by the HP PA7300LC processor operating at 132MHz and a 32-bit, two-way, superscalar CPU -- achieved 502 SPECweb96 operations per second with its 1MB of cache and 430 SPECweb96 without cache.
SPECweb96, announced in July 1996 by the Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation (SPEC), is an industry-standard client/server benchmark used to indicate the maximum number of HTTP connections a Web server can support within a reasonable response time.
The SPECweb96 benchmark is designed and produced by the SPEC Consortium, an independent organization comprising representatives from the computer industry. SPEC oversees such popular industry-standard benchmarks as the SPECint95 and SPECfp95.
The HP Domain Enterprise Server Family delivers comprehensive UNIX system and NT-based Internet solutions through a series of pre-integrated software/hardware packages that leverage HP's leadership in service and support.
