Qld: Cash needed for new RSPCA Qld base
BRISBANE, Dec 17 AAP - The corporate sector in Queensland has been urged to come up
with $5 million towards building a state of the art facility for a leading animal protection
society.
The appeal to the sector came from Premier Peter Beattie who today announced a $19
million facility would be built in Redbank, in Brisbane's west, to replace the RSPCA's
"run down" base in Fairfield.
He said the Queensland government would contribute $14 million to the new facility
which was expected to take nearly two years to construct.
"I appeal to the corporate sector to help fill the gap of $5 million," Mr Beattie said.
Mr Beattie said the Fairfield campus would get $150,000 for temporary upgrading work
so it could keep operating until the new facility was completed.
He said the most critical problems at the Fairfield campus were inadequate power supply,
drainage and pest control.
