NATURE'S PESTS 18 IN CAPITAL DISTRICT CATCH LYME DISEASE.(Local)

Ticks that carry Lyme disease, a bacterial infection that can cause a variety of health problems, arrived in Albany County this fall, according to a state Health Department spokeswoman.

"We have two confirmed findings of the tick in (Albany County)," Vicki Zeldin said. Earlier this year, she said, ticks had been discovered in southern Rensselaer County and Columbia County, the first the pest had been documented in the Capital District. Zeldin said she was unsure exactly when those ticks were discovered.
