Waiver to buy properties granted to CHA residents

A waiver that allows public housing residents to use their section 8 vouchers as down payments for properties has been granted by the Chicago Housing Authority (CHA).

"It's in line of some exceptions granted us as we are trying to trickle down to the residents, especially those who can buy and keep the homes," according to CHA CEO Terry Peterson.

Addressing the Editorial Board of the Chicago Defender on Friday, Peterson explained that 7,086 housing units would be under construction in 2003, out of which 3,157 are family units and the rest -- 3,929 units -- are for seniors.
